18.23: Good evening. It’s Kalule Mbowa kicking off the Election Night as the results trickle in. Here is what we know so far:

This is likely to be a very long night, it seems to be an election without a result. We now know this country has spoken but we are yet to fully know what they have spoken.

All Uganda’s 23, 963 polling stations have now closed, counting has started.

Heavy deployment of the army particularly in Kampala; in rural areas reports say voters were intimidated by the presence of the army and a big number stayed away from polling stations – the opposition say that the deployment is yet another form of denying Ugandans not only their right to vote but also a free and fair election.
